January 21, 1966 - George Harrison and Pattie Boyd get married.
It’s one of the most bizarre and twisted love stories in rock history — George and Pattie met on the set of A Hard Day’s Night when Pattie was 18 and were married until 1974. During their marriage, Eric Clapton fell madly in love with Pattie and wrote a little song called “Layla” about her (it’s also rumored that John Lennon and Mick Jagger both had crushes on Pattie as well). Following the divorce, Pattie moved in with Clapton and married him. Clapton went on to write “Wonderful Tonight” for her as well as “Bell Bottom Blues.”
Also on this day, Rolling Stone published the first part of a very revealing interview with John Lennon.
