On the topic of The Beatles…

I watched a movie called “Backbeat” this morning, a 1994 film about Stu Sutcliffe and the Beatles’ early years in Germany.  It boasts the tagline “He Had To Choose Between His Best Friend… The Woman He Loved… And The Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band In the World.”  Pretty deep, huh?  For the Beatles enthusiasts out there, I highly recommend it.  Plus, Andy Hollinden and Glenn Gass would be oh so proud.

And as far as this discussion goes about the Beatles covering girl group songs in the early years - I always liked those songs (I mean, come on - “This Boy” is simply a showcase of how insanely good their harmony is/was).  People can tear apart the Beatles’ first two albums all they want, but the Fab Four chose songs that challenged them vocally and musically - that they could make their own but still have them be familiar with fans.  It’s almost impossible for someone to do something like that nowadays.
