I’ve always hated Catcher in the Rye.
So I just watched the movie Killing John Lennon this morning, an independent film based around Mark David Chapman and the several days leading up to Lennon’s murder. It was a decent flick, not great by any means. But shortly after watching it, I came across the film Chapter 27. A chubby Jared Leto, of all people, portrays the killer Chapman while Lindsay Lohan plays a small role as Jude, a random woman that meets Chapman on the street. The most interesting role though goes to the man playing John Lennon, whose name just so happens to be Mark Chapman.
All this got me to thinking though. What’s the point in making these movies? Chapman was simply a dillusional psychopath who envied Lennon and everything that he had - he wanted to become famous by killing Lennon and used Catcher in the Rye as a sick and twisted motive.
Don’t you think that maybe, just maybe, he enjoys all of this attention? OK, that’s my deep thought of the day.
