July 30, 1968 — A public announcement is made that the Apple Stores (aka Apple Boutiques) are closing.

The announcement came just 8 months after the opening of the first store, making the endeavor an enormous disaster.  The majority of the merchandise in the store was sold off at huge discounts or simply given away.
